1934 – Tom Wells, a Sussex type!

Tom Wells Newspaper story
The West Sussex Gazette
8th March 1934

“Photographer: H Sopp, High Street, Loxwood

Here we have Tom Wells, of Loxwood, a typical resident in a typical Sussex village; like Sussex, Loxwood has more things than one to be proud of. He is 75 years of age, and farming, copse cutting, hoop making, pimp making, and gardening have been his occupations. He may be seen any day in Loxwood, “and if you want to know what the weather is going to be he will tell you better than any weather glass”. Photographers who take a real interest in human faces say that those who have worked with their hands get much more interesting faces in old age than those that have just been pen men, and in offices only.”

Tom Wells (b.1859 d.1938) was the owner of Church Cottage
