1730 – Shopkeeper declared Bankrupt

“Whereas a Commission of Bankrupt¬† is awarded against William Joyes, of Loxwood, in the County of Sussex, Shopkeeper, and he being declared a bankrupt, is hereby required to surrender himself to the commissioners on the 6th and 13th November next, at three in the afternoon, at Guildhall, London, and make full Discovery of the Estate and Effects, when and when Creditors are to come prepared to prove their debts, and pay contribution money and at the second of which sittings the commissioners will appoint Assignees. All persons indebted to the said Bankrupt, or that have any effects, are not to pay or deliver the same but to whom the Commissioners shall appoint.”
